Acupuncture and its benefits


The term acupuncture describes a set of procedures that involve the stimulation of certain anatomical points using a variety of techniques. The variant of acupuncture that is applied more frequently, and whose possible beneficial effects have been studied in greater depth, is the variant in which fine needles are inserted into the skin, in certain strategic points, in order to alleviate a wide range of pathologies.
Acupuncture has been practiced in China and other Asian countries for thousands of years. Nowadays, it is a well-known therapy also in the western world, millions of people resort to acupuncture as an alternative therapy, to alleviate different conditions and improve their quality of life.
According to some studies, acupuncture could be effective for the treatment of:
   
Chronic lumbar pain.
Osteoarthritis of the knee.
Headaches, migraines.
Carpal tunnel syndrome.
Fibromyalgia
Menstrual cramps.
Pain in the neck, contractures.

 

If you suffer from some type of chronic pain, it is possible that acupuncture is a good option to complement the therapy that your GP has indicated. This type of treatment should always be carried out by trained personnel.
Always review the professional training, licenses and certificates that enable you to perform acupuncture treatments. In general there are no contraindications for this therapy and it is considered to be a safe procedure, but it is not applied correctly, it can have negative consequences for health.
